Great Wall approaching Beijing from the East - Pinggu District
Changping District Outer Suburb of Beijing -  Great Wall Sections
Traveling from East to West along the Great Wall of China in Beijing Province the fourth County the Great Wall passes through is Changping District. The Changping District used to be a thoroughly rural area mainly occupied by orchards and named after its largest population center, the farming Village of Changping situated strategically on the approaches to both the Ming Tombs (Shisan Ling (13 Tombs)) Wolrd Cultural Heritage Site and the Badaling Great Wall of China, likewise a UNESCO listed world cultural heritage site. In this decade the landscape has been transformed the success of the city and international mass tourism turning the rural land into a newly urbanized zone. Today Changping Village is no more, instead the ChangPing District has been turned into a sprawling light industry district whereas both the Ming Tombs and the Great Wall have become its main tourist venues. Near the Great Wall lie expensive resort condominiums, the obligatory Golf Courses, newly built museums and entertainment venues for mass tourism and the like.
Huairou District Outer Suburb of Beijing -  Great Wall Sections
Traveling from East to West along the Great Wall of China in Beijing Province the third County the Great Wall passes through is Huairou District, now also considered an outer suburb of the Megametropolis. Huairou, alike neighboring Miyun County is named after its largest population center. Huairou District is situated almost in the middle north of Beijing Province and the section of the Great Wall of China found there exist in a double layer. One outer defensive line and wall by an large deliniates the current day border with surrounding Hebei Province. In addition, a second Inner Layer of the Great Wall exists. Kilometers long sections of this Inner Layer of the Great Wall have all but disapeared or lie in utter ruins. Most of the Huairou District Great Wall Sections are considered Wild Walls, meaninng there is no official label, access, tolling or guarding of the wall. Nevertheless, one could walk these wall sections if one knows how to access them.
Miyun County Outer Suburb of Beijing -  Great Wall Sections
Traveling from East to West along the Great Wall of China in Beijing Province the second County the Great Wall passes through is Miyun County. Miyun County is named after its largest population center as well as the man made Miyun Water Reservoir, the largest fresh water body within the city Province. Miyun City is situated in the south-central section of the county whereas the Great Wall of China delineates most of the border with Miyun County and bordering sections of surrounding Hebei Province.

Beijing City Great Wall Sections Maps by County
In total there are over 56 seperate sections of the Great Wall of China in Beijing City Province which is quite a few too much to overview in one glance. In practice each such section is delineated by its own geographical properties (Valley and / or Village) and bears a seperate name which is given on our Maps and Listings where possible.
In order to avoid confusion all maps of sections of the Great Wall of China within Beijing Municipality are listed below starting out from East to West. Traveling from East to West these Great Wall sections are listed as seperated by County and consecutive locations.
Traveling from East to West along the Great Wall of China in Beijing Province the first County the Great Wall passes through is Pinggu District. Pinggu District borders in the East on both Tangshan County of Hebei Province and the norternmost tip of adjacent Tianjin City Province. But a decade ago or so Pinggu District was still a rural County Of Beijing however today it is considered an outer suburb.
Although mostly ruined and short in length, the Great Wall of China sections in the north of Pinggu District are noteable for their ancient origins (some Dating back over a 1000 years) as well as their interesting histories and attached legends. Due to the remote locations with -up to recently- according travel times and woes, these sections were non-famous and under visited. Today, things all depend on day and season.
PICKING UP THE TRAIL OF THE WALL IN THE EAST:
Due East of Beijing Province, many kilometers beyond the border and well into Hebei Province the Malanyu (Malanyu Guan) section in Zunhua County of Tangshan Prefecture of Hebei Province is the point where the continuity of the inter-connecting sections of the Great Wall of China is most easily picked up. Although now broken and interrupted, the Great Wall leads from Malanyu via the location of the Eastern Qing Dynasty Tombs (DongQing Ling), the location of the Tomb of the Empress-Dowager Hsu-Tzi (Cixi) and
used to connect through with Taipingzhai Great Wall of China of Ji County in Tianjin City Province. In turn the Taipingzhai section connects westward to Huangyaguan (Yellow Cliff) Great Wall of China, which is the second and also last section of the Great Wall of China found within the administrative area of Tianjin City Province, not Beijing Province.

Together the Yellow Cliff Great Wall- and Taipingzhai Great Wall -sections cover several kilometers forming a complex and semi-continuous trail of ruins and standing wall sections. The Taipingzhai section has ancient origins and in the time of the Ming Dynasty (1368 AD - 1644 AD) found its final form as a double layered defense system with as a result that ruins can be found arcing north- and south- around the town, eventually to connect with the Yellow Cliff (Huangyaguan) Wall. The Huangyaguan Wall is much longer than the official sections shown on the schematic map found below. Winding its way from south-east to north-west it has many kilometers of wild wall, the ruins of which have been marked on our:
Google Map of Great Wall of China Locations in Beijing City, Tianjin & Hebei Province
In the East of Beijing Province the XXX section found in Pinggu District of Beijing Province connects with XXX Great Wall of China, making this section the first Great Wall of China section of Miyun County in the East.

Just beyond the Taipingzhai and Huangyaguan sections the Great Wall of China continues into the Pinggu District of Beijing City Province. For a considerable end there are however no visible remains to be found today. Only many kilometers beyond, both to the west and north sporadic ruins and recongizable wall remains appear near the rural towns of Zhujiatai and Shijiatai on the southern tip of the (modestly sized) Zhenluo Yingshi River Reservoir.
Although this is what is known as a wild wall, an unofficial section not covered in the official tourist iteneraries, these remote towers and ruins eventually connect to the Dachengzi Great Wall of China, the first Great Wall of China section of Beijing Province in the East.

The 2nd Great Wall of China section, the Yellow Cliff Great Wall (Huangyaguan) has aa much longer length than the neighboring Taipingzhai Great Wall with which it is continuous.
Yellow Cliff Great all extends between the Yu River west bank (and S258 / S101 Road) in the East and the S231 Road in the West. Its ultimate terminus represent the location of the (administrative) border between Tianjin City Province and Beijing City Province which lies near the minute rural village of Huanglanggou just west of S231 Road. Coincidentally this is also where the factual ruins end. The reappear some kilometers beyond near Zhujiatai Village and Zhenluo Yingshi River Reservoir of Dachengzi Township in the Pinggu District in the very outer suburbs of Beijing. hese ruins are the beginning of the Beijing Wall proper.

As shown adjacent, the Taipingzhai Section proper is fairly short in length and leads from south to north rather than east to west. Taipingzhai Great wall stretches between Tiantai Mountain (& Resorts) in the south east and the eastern bank of the Yu River (Yu He or Ju He) near Taipingzhai Village several kilometers due north of Tiantai Mountain.
In the East beyond the official starting point at Tiantai Mountain more ruins can be traced and identified for several kilometers leading east and away into the westernmost parts of Zunhua County of Tangshan Prefecture of Hebei Province. On the western end across the Yu River lies the adjacent section of Huangyaguan / Yellow Clif, also a part of Ji County in Tianjin City Province.
